Bob-MitchellBob Mitchell, president, Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, has extensive experience in economic development and manufacturing management. He has spent more than two decades as a highly successful executive in both for profit and not for profit enterprises in the Houston region and has consistently demonstrated his ability to develop, manage and implement a strategic plan for international companies.

Mitchell joined the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP) in 2000 to oversee the statewide implementation of the Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP). Due to his leadership and highly successful program management, he was increasingly asked in 2006 to represent the president in many initiatives and social functions. In 2007 he was assigned responsibility BAHEP’s day-to-day operations, and, in the fall of that year, was named president-elect of the organization. He assumed the presidency on January 1, 2008. As BAHEP president, Mitchell has taken a leadership role in several initiatives affecting Bay Area Houston that have garnered national attention.

Mitchell believes in giving back to the community and has actively donated his time in numerous capacities. Recognizing his work and partnerships on behalf of NASA Johnson Space Center, its many contractor companies and the Houston Airport System, Texas Governor Rick Perry appointed Mitchell to his Aerospace and Aviation Advisory Committee. Mitchell also serves on numerous boards including that of the Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, UTMB Health System Advisory Board, Board of Visitors at Texas A&M University at Galveston, Manned Spaceflight Education Foundation, Inc., HCA Gulf Coast Regional Advisory Board, the Rotary National Award for Space Achievement Board of Advisors, Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Gulf Coast Limestone, Inc.

Key elements of Mitchell’s work experience were gained during 15 years at Grumman Aerospace Corporation. As an executive, he directed all production, engineering and material operations for the Houston facility of this Fortune 500 company.

Mitchell’s background also includes serving as vice president and general manager for two international subsea companies, Unitech and ASEP.

Mitchell and his wife, Brenda, who live in Houston, have three sons and a grandson. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf.
