Laura Lorek is the publisher of Silicon Hills News, a Central Texas regional technology news startup and the host of the Ideas to Invoices podcast. She previously worked as a senior writer at the San Antonio Express-News covering high technology and business news stories. Before that, Lorek worked as a senior writer at Ziff Davis’ Interactive Week magazine and as a technology columnist and specialty writer for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
She visited Taiwan and Singapore as an Asia-Pacific Journalism Fellow from the East-West Center of Honolulu. Lorek has also been awarded a Covering Globalization Fellowship from Columbia University in New York, a Western Knight Center Journalism Fellowship from the University of California at Los Angeles on Nonprofit Organizations and two Knight Center Journalism Fellowships on Financial Markets and Cyberspace from the University of Maryland.
Most recently Lorek starting running SpaceATX, a daylong space conference, and she has participated in four NASA Social events at Johnson Space Center, Michoud Assembly Center, Stennis Space Center, and Glenn Research Center.
Lorek received a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a focus on economics from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana
